What is geosocial couponing? And what's in it for me?!

Geosocial couponing is an online service which allows users to check-in to shops and restaurant using their mobile phone to get discounts. It also allows people to see what deals are happening around them and where their friends are getting a good bargain. In some instances there are also rewards to bringing friends along to different shops and restaurants. (The Telegraph

The term, which today may be best known as Facebook Places and Foursquare Offers, or even the more sophisticated 'mobile coupons' out there, comes from combining the farily new terms ‘geosocial networking’ and ‘online couponing’:

Geosocial Networking is a type of social networking in which geographic services and capabilities such as geocoding and geotagging are used to enable additional social dynamics. User-submitted location data or geolocation techniques can allow social networks to connect and coordinate users with local people or events that match their interests. (Wikipedia)

Online couponing refers to sites such as Groupon and LetsBonus that offer discounts or “coupons” online for “the best stuff to do, see, eat, and buy”.  Mobile services allow you to browse local deals and Search nearby offers using GPS, purchasing with the touch of a button. (Groupon)
